Introduction
This stunning pattern was created by MJ’s Off the Hook Designs and can be adjusted based on size, yarn weight, and accessory. I absolutely love this pattern, it is a quick make for me but perfect for both listing on my Etsy shop for sale (with permission from MJ’s Off the Book Design) and donating to my local NICU along with some NICU octopi. MJ created a stunning texture to keep the little heads warm and cozy, paired perfectly with a star stitch blanket pattern is a great baby shower gift as well.
I chose a 4weight (worsted) yarn to do my first hat in with a 4.5mm hook from Prym. These hooks are my absolute favorite due to the weight, length, and they glide very smooth for me personally. I also used stitch markers and decided on the bow pattern rather than the flower that MJ also has a pattern for on her website. This pattern also goes with a YouTube video for us visual learners who need more than just a pattern or pictures to look at. This is an intermediate beginner pattern in my opinion, using some basic stitches but very new beginners may struggle.
This project took me, personally, about an hour to make and another 15 minutes to finish the bow. I decided on the 3-month old size for my first attempt but will be making them in all sizes, and many in newborn to donate to the NICU. You want to make sure the yarn used is soft and washable to ensure the most comfort and easy washing for new parents who have so much else going on.
I am attaching a picture of my completed project so you can see this stunning hat. For the pattern please see the link below for MJ’s Off the Hook Design’s website. This is a free pattern but a PDF can be purchased there if you would prefer.
